Pharmaceutical laminated tubes — engineered for shelf life.
Aaywon manufactures aluminium-barrier (ABL) and plastic-barrier (PBL) laminated tubes for India's most regulated pharmaceutical formulations — from ointments and antifungals to dermatology gels and medicated creams.
Pharmaceutical packaging is the most demanding application a laminated tube can serve. The contents are regulated, the shelf life is long, the API is often sensitive to oxygen and moisture, and a single packaging failure can mean a recall. Pharma buyers don't just want a tube — they want a documented, traceable, regulator-friendly supply chain.
Aaywon's pharmaceutical tube program is built around exactly that. Every tube we make for pharma customers uses food/medical-grade laminate sourced from approved suppliers, runs through controlled-environment lamination and printing lines, and ships with COA (Certificate of Analysis) documentation against agreed specifications.
Why pharma uses laminated tubes
Topical pharmaceuticals — ointments, creams, gels — sit between two packaging worlds. Glass jars are too rigid and expose the product to air on every use. Pure plastic tubes can't block oxygen well enough for medicated formulations. Laminated tubes are the answer: a multi-layer construction where a thin aluminium foil (ABL) or EVOH polymer (PBL) sits between layers of food-grade plastic, giving you the squeezability of plastic with the barrier protection of metal.
Common pharmaceutical applications
- Antifungal creams — clotrimazole, ketoconazole, terbinafine. ABL tubes prevent moisture ingress that degrades active ingredients.
- Steroid and anti-inflammatory ointments — hydrocortisone, mometasone, betamethasone. Oxygen-barrier laminates protect oxidation-sensitive APIs.
- Dermatology gels — acne treatments, retinoids, salicylic acid. Tube format allows precise dispensing of active formulations.
- Antibiotic ointments — neomycin, mupirocin, fusidic acid. Sterile-friendly tube format with tamper-evident closures.
- Pain-relief gels — diclofenac, ibuprofen topicals. Large-format tubes (50mm diameter, up to 100g) optimized for retail shelf presence.
- Veterinary topicals — same construction, larger fills, agriculture-grade decoration.
ABL vs PBL for pharmaceuticals
For most pharmaceutical applications we recommend ABL (Aluminium Barrier Laminate). The aluminium foil provides a near-absolute barrier to oxygen, moisture, light and aroma migration — exactly what oxidation-sensitive APIs need. ABL is also the construction most pharma quality teams already qualify against existing master files.
PBL (Plastic Barrier Laminate) uses an EVOH polymer layer instead of aluminium foil. It's fully recyclable, lighter, and visually softer. For low-sensitivity formulations or product lines that need a sustainability story (paediatric ranges, dermo-cosmetic crossovers), PBL is a legitimate choice. We help customers qualify it through accelerated stability studies before commercial supply begins.
